DAVID O’BRIEN
Senior Consultant, New South Wales

David O'Brien

OMA Panelist; CIArb; ADRA; MASA; Dip Ed
Contracted Mediator for Port Stephens Council

As a fully accredited and practising mediator, David is a member of the Office of Mediation Adviser’s national panel of mediators as well as holding membership to the International Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Australian Dispute Resolution Association.

Throughout his working career, David has long been an advocate of the benefits of parties having the opportunity to resolve disputes through mutual negotiation thereby giving them ownership of the common ground reached rather than a third party passing judgement upon them.

The diversity and quality of programs and services offered by Conflict Solvers NSW provides for the very ethos of this approach to dispute resolution practices to be within the reach of, and address the needs of, a wide section of our community – be they workplace, school, personal relationships or community focussed.

By drawing upon a vast background of mediation experience David brings to the dispute resolution process a successful combination of formal mediation accreditation and practical business and relationship experiences to directly assist  others in utilising the skills that can help realise the facilitation of effective resolutions whenever disputes arise.

As a former executive and consultant with the NSW Department of Education, Science and Training David spent 18 years successfully facilitating relationships and outcomes at multiple tiers within the public education system encompassing stakeholders of teachers, students, parents, and local communities alike.

Likewise in his roles in private business practice David utilises his knowledge and skills gained from being involved at differing levels of business structures through a global and balanced perspective of the nature of relationships between those who co-exist within a common environment.

As a published author and full member of the Australian Society of Authors for the past 16 years, David has also successfully presented courses and seminars on writing as well as papers at national conferences on children’s writing.

David is also an advocate of  early intervention through mediation acting as a preventative mechanism to addressing disputes at a minor level before they have the opportunity to escalate or intensify.

With the process of mediation providing a formal means of effecting dispute resolution and with the majority of mediation sessions arriving at a mutually agreed outcome, mediation is becoming a more and more preferred process to resolving disputes than that of going down other pathways.
