FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION FOR MEDIATORS

Click on any question to read the answer.

Q. Are you required to be a professional mediator in order to receive supervision?

A: For most people who seek supervision this is the case, however for those of you still studying, professional supervision is still possible. For those already qualified, supervision is the ideal solution where you receive little or no supervision in your current practice. This may occur as you are a sole practitioner or you work in a small team where on-going supervision is impracticable or rarely provided. For others you may prefer to talk through cases where you feel you are not being judged by peers.

Q. Are our sessions confidential?

A: Absolutely. The only exception to this is if you disclose information that is likely to put someone else at risk or there safety is compromised.

Q. Can I record or use our session to show others or use it with colleagues?

A: I am sure you appreciate as you wish to keep your sessions between us, so do I. Aside from you using our time together to improve/change your work practices, there is no permission to use our conversations in a public way except to talk about what you’ve learnt verbally.

Q. How do you run the session on a practical basis?

A: Within Australia there are two ways. Either we chat on the phone or you can Skype me. However it is important before booking in session(s) that you email me through our on-line form and check as to my availability. At this stage it is normally evenings and weekends.

Q. What is included in the supervision session?

A: Each person is different so I allow you to set the agenda (which is wise to think about before we chat together). It might be a case(s) that you have completed and want to talk about the outcome or a case that is coming up. You might want to talk about the process itself or find out about current trends or what’s happening in the field. Please note however that I can not give you legal advice. I am not a lawyer.

Q. Can I have someone else join me in getting advice whilst I am in supervision?

A: These sessions are designed for one on one supervision. If you are looking for group supervision you will need to email me this request and I will respond with further information and prices.

Q. How much do sessions cost?

A: At this stage I offer one of two options. There is a one off hour long supervision at a cost of $120 AUD or you can buy a package of three sessions for $270.00 AUD. Please note however that the three sessions need to be used within a 12 month period as they expire from the date of purchase. You can also not purchase a package of three sessions and have three different people use the sessions. One hour sessions can not be split across two half hour sessions.

Q. How do I start?

A: Fill in our enquiry form and I will get back to you.

Q. How do I pay?

A. Currently I have the following options Credit Card, Paypal or for Australian residents direct bank deposit (please ask for our account details). For verified professional organisations, we can offer invoicing.

Q. Do you offer face to face supervision?

A: I currently operate from Melbourne, Australia so this would only be possible for those residing or able to attend supervision in Melbourne (Collins St City). However if you want face to face supervision, the cost is higher from the above quoted prices. Please email me if this is your preference.

Q. What are your qualifications and expertise?

A: I have been a mediator for well over 20 years and am currently a registered/practising Nationally Accredited Mediator as well as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. I have mediated in around two thousand cases. They have been very varied over the years.
