I have known Fred Stern for 3 years in a professional capacity. Fred has trained all our year 12 VCE students each year in the VCE TEAM program. He has also trained a group of our Year 10 and 11 students over the last 3 years in the Peer Mediation program. Fred initially presented this program to the staff before the decision was made for its introduction. I have attended all of these training sessions with our students , so feel well qualified to comment on Fred's abilities and qualities as an educator. Fred is currently working weekly with all our year 9 students on a life skills program, which he has developed for our students from information I have given him. Fred has a relaxed and easy manner with the students, which evokes a friendly response from them. He presents his material in a logical and interesting way that invites very active student participation. This then is translated into a very supportive environment amongst the students taking part in the program's training. This is equally true of both the VCE TEAM and Peer Mediators. The Year 9 students with whom he is currently working have enjoyed participating in the discussions that Fred initiates. The skills introduced to them are invaluable for making life decisions, particularly those needed during the adolescent years e.g. friendships, bullying, sexual and mental health and communication. His personal qualities of effective communication, integrity, honesty, friendly disposition, openess and thorough preparation of work presented, all contribute to Fred's ability of effectively working with young people. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Fred to any position where he is required to work with both staff and students in an educational institution.
Yours faithfully, |
